Define Rude

So I was browsing channels in the TV, with the help of TV Guide. it says it was Ellen Degeneres. I like her. so i thought, may be i'll stop and see what the show is about.
She has one of my favorite TV actor Hugh Laurie. The guy who is that program "House".
She asked him whether she has any complains about USA (as he is from UK), he says I'm a guest here, so i can't go and complain. But if you insist, I'm not happy about this, " I go to a store, wait in line to check out. If the phone rings he/she will put me on hold and attend the phone. I'm the one who put so much effort to come to the store. not the person in the phone. he might be naked or sitting in a bar. This is might good for business, but it is very very rude.". I liked his view, then i moved on.
Also I'm a big fan of Calvin & Hobbes, and as I was reading this book, Calvin's mom get so pissed in the same situation in which after a bad day, she goes to the store, and at the time of ringing it, the clerk puts Calvin's mom on hold and attends the phone. After ringing the clerk says "have a good day" and calvin's mom replies "Too late".

Is this a conincidence. I don't know
